A Flaky Friday in February

by Monica on February 13, 2010

It doesn’t snow often in Georgia. And when it does, it’s a BIG deal. Our city doesn’t have snow plows or salt trucks. Our residents don’t have snow shovels or blowers. We shut down for snow…or even the real threat of snow. Our one grocery store (yes, one) was slammed with panic-stricken folks quickly buying up milk and bread (because really…what else do you need if snowed in and without power for a couple of days?). Schools were canceled yesterday. We knew on Thursday night. The excitement was palpable.

Three little goofballs woke up ridiculously early and began what would turn into several hours of “Is it snowing yet? Is it snowing yet? Is God still making the snow, Mommy? It’s taking so long. Why isn’t it snowing yet?”

And we saw the first flake around 2pm. Immediately, they began a new chant. “Can we go play in it? Can we make a snowman, Mommy? Can we please?”

We only had a couple of hours yesterday and a couple this morning to enjoy the frosty festivities (it’s all melted now…gone as quickly as it arrived). But good golly miss molly we sure had a lot of fun!
