I actually love that our house is on the smallish side. For one thing, it creates (ok…forces) more opportunities for us to be together. Our bedrooms are small but the living areas are nice-sized. We gravitate towards them as a family.
Also…who wants to clean a large house? NOT this busy-enough-already mommy, that’s for sure!
And speaking of cleaning, the one thing that makes me the MOST nuts about keeping things neat around here is ALL. THIS. PAPER. Seriously…we have piles of papers here and piles of papers there. We have boxes of paper piles that have moved with us more than once. EMBARRASSING!
Space is at a premium in this smallish house. Do I REALLY want to waste so much of it on paper? Of course not! But I find myself completely overwhelmed when I sit down to go through the paper piles. What if I throw away the wrong things? How do I set up a filing system that works but isn’t overly complicated?
As I was perusing some of my favorite blogs this morning, I came across this fabulous post from Simple Mom (LOVE her). 19 Tips for Making Your Home Paperless.
If you share my struggle with paper clutter in your home, check it out!
Other tips you’ve employed? Please let me know. Mkay? Thanks!

LOL, paper has *always* been a problem at my house…comes from being a professional student. And then, I married a PhD student, which equals paper problem squared. Now, three years post-my leaving school and two years post-his graduation, I *think* we have a handle on the paper (at least until I go back to school!). All things academic have been put away or shredded and/or recycled. Junk mail? Automatic shred/recycle. Important papers? We have an extensive basket/box system…every room in the house has at least one with an amazing organizational system, ie, they’re crammed full and I couldn’t tell ya what’s where. So, good luck with your paper problem! It’s a curse!
I haven’t clicked over yet, but I am going to. One thing that I do and have seen talked about is not to save every last thing the kids bring home from school. Instead, photograph it. In 20 years or more when the peapod squad is sifting through stuff they won’t want a huge paper mache cat, but a photo of one would be cool. (not that your kids have made paper mache cats or anything…LOL)
Yeah, I bookmarked that post from Simple Mom! Now I just need to go back and start putting those tips into practice. We recycle a lot and our recycling bin is always filled with paper but I look around and there’s still more paper cluttering my home!
Good luck on your quest! I’m right there with you
going to look now…sounds like the article I need. the majority of my clutter is paper, and it’s driving me crazy
Ooooo, glad I am not the only one with paper piles.
