During story time tonight, Split Pea and his blanket and “pets” (2 little ducks and 1 little blue pony–which he insists is a cow) were snuggled up in my lap. One of the books Sweet Pea had chosen is called “Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes.” It has a beautifully illustrated baby on the cover. Split saw it in the stack and informed me that he didn’t like babies. This revelation was followed by a sweet conversation I never want to forget.
Split: I don’t like babies at all, Mommy. I don’t love them either.
Me: Oh, that’s sad. You were a baby once, you know.
Split: Well, it’s just that I don’t think I have enough love for a baby. I gave all my love to my girlfriends at school today. I don’t have any left now.
Me (pretend pouting): Oh no! You gave all your love away? Did you not even save a little love for Mommy?
Split (flashing that grin that grabs me EVERY time): Silly Mommy! I gave you the first love I had this morning. Don’t you remember when I got in bed with you when Daddy went to work?
I know the day will come when he’ll give most of his love to some other girl. He’d just better always save a little love for Mommy.

That is exactly how I feel about my youngest bundle of cuteness!
OMY that is too cute. I too have to look forward to the same thing with my little baby boy. We all know in our hearts that the little love for Mommy will always be there.
I love everything about this.
