The Indigins.

by Monica on September 20, 2008

We went on a family trip today with Nana and Pop and the peapod squad. We went to see traditional Native American dancing, arts & crafts, artifact exhibits, and Dora ice cream bars. :-) Yeah, Dora is everywhere.

The kids LOVED it. Sweet Pea did not want to go. She begged to stay in the car once we got there. She was "scay-ed of the Indigins." Reluctantly, she agreed to go as long as Pop held her the whole time. Once she saw the dancers, though, she was just as mesmerized as her brothers were. They are completely obsessed with all things Indian now and have been imitating the ceremonial dances all evening. Nana also bought them each a flute hand carved from sugar cane. Very cool. Very noisy. They have asked a hundred questions about the Indians and seem pretty fascinated with my calling them "Nana’s people" (my mom is a descendant of Cherokee Indians…though she sure doesn’t look like it). Snap Pea seems especially interested in their undergarments. He came to their bedroom door to tell me he needed to go to the potty a while ago. While he was on the potty, we had the following marvelous conversation.

Snap: Mommy? Do the Indigins pee-pee in the potty and wear big kid underwear?

Me: Yes, honey. They pee-pee in the potty and wear underwear just like you do.

Snap: Hey Mommy? Do the little girl Indians wear a bwa?

Me: Yes, I suppose they do.

Snap: Hey, hey Mommy? What color bwa did the pink Indian girl wear? Was her bwa pink like her jingle bell feather dwess?

Me: Honey, I just don’t know. Probably. Are you finished using the potty yet?

Snap: Mommy? I weally, weally like the pink Indigin girl. Can she come to my house sometime? I want to see her pink bwa.

What on earth…

Sounds like you had a great trip… had a bit of a giggle about the pink ‘bwa’ LOL… interestingly my girls are a bit into American Indians too.. though the only one they know is Tiger Lily in Peter Pan!

LOL Isn’t it funny what kids think of? Wondering about going potty and bras. Cracks me up. They are so cute.
